This tablecloth is sewn using the embroidery foot on the sewing machine. It is inspired by Anne Beier Finnestads book “symaskinlyd” 2004.
Free hand sewing is lots of fun, and it gives plenty possibilities to use your imagination.
The appliquéing and quilting are sewn by freehand (using machine). In order to freehand quilt, you disable the feed dog (undertransportøren), hold your material, batting and backing with both hands and move the project by hand in some circular manner. In order to get best results, the batting should be of a pressed quality. That means, it should not be of the light fluffy type. In this case, firm and more compact is better. It is easier to get a good result if you keep your project in motion as you work. Stopping while you have pressure on your sewing machine foot, is not a good idea 🙂
The same rules apply when you sew around your appliqués. Try this, I am sure you will get hooked….
